What is my IP Address
All computers across the internet are assigned a unique identifier called an IP address. They are used like street addresses so other computers can find them. An IP address could look something like this: 86.241.210.22.
The reason why we display your IP Address and record it if you submit a claim is for security reasons which are namely fraudulent claims and also bogus claims.
99.9% of claims received via the site do not fall into these categories but if they are submitted, we can notify the respective authority be it Police or the users ISP if we need to. If the claim does not fall into these 2 categories, there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Please read the following of how we class the relevant claims.
1. FRAUDULENT CLAIMS
These type of claims are usually discovered very quickly by our solicitor panel but occasionally all the information might add up and the claim is processed. This may mean a hire car is delivered to a address but turns out that this is not the clients address and then the car is reported stolen. Another case is where 'car gangs' fake accidents in order to receive compensation. Our solicitors liase with the insurance companies and information is passed back to highlight these problems. This is when we can provide the Police with the IP Address of the computer that the claim was submitted from. Our aim is to provide a honest service for people that have been victims of accidents and we get them compensation for their injuries. We are not here to line the pockets of criminals.
2. BOGUS CLAIMS
Not as serious as fraudulent claims but still creates a problem.
Some group of people think it is fun to submit completely false claims. When we call the telephone numbers supplied or email the client with the supplied email address, the person on the end of the phone/email is genuinely concerned with how we obtained their details and/or completely doesn't understand why we are calling. This is not only a concern to the person that is called but wastes our time and resources. We then simply do a lookup of the IP Address and email the respective ISP's abuse email address with the IP Address related to the Bogus Claim and then they can terminate that persons internet connection for abusing the companies acceptable use policy.
Simply Put, if you have not had an accident, please don't submit it on this site.
